Board OKs Ciba-Geigy as a redevelopment site
TOMS RIVER — Members of the Dover Township Planning Board unanimously approved a report prepared by its planner calling for the more than 1,200 acres owned by Ciba-Geigy to be considered a redevelopment project.
The approval by the Planning Board says the area meets statutory criteria for an "area in need of redevelopment."
According the a report delivered to the board, "Virtually the entire tract, and the portion that would be the subject of redevelopment and new development activities, lies in the Suburban Planning Area."
Council President Gregory P. McGuckin said Tuesday night the vote will give the township more of a say in how the land would be developed.
Two requests by attorneys representing Ciba-Geigy were denied by the board.
They requested the board extend the comment period an additional 30 days so they could prepare for the hearing. The board denied that, saying the company had been given the time required by state statute.
They also wanted to cross-examine John J. Lynch, the planner who prepared the report. That, too, was denied.
Ciba-Geigy attorneys can appeal the board's decision in court.
